It is very important to increase traffic from Google Search. Nowadays, there are over 40,000 searches per second being processed by the Google's search engine. That means there are over 3.5 billions searches each day or 1.2 trillions search in a year. For comparison, as of May 2019, Google's search engine market share is 92.04%. Meanwhile Yahoo has only 2.67% market share and Bing is only used by 2.39% of worldwide search engine users. Baidu, the Chinese's search engine, only represents 0.89% of global search engine usage, and the Russian's Yandex RU has only 0.51% share. The smallest one is DuckDuckGo which has only 0.38% market share. So you can say that 9 out 10 people in the world use Google as their preferred search engine.

The graph above tells us that billions of user choose Google Search as their preferred gateway to find information. So you need to make sure that your website is visible in Google Search engine as we have already discussed in previous the article about GoogleBot. If you have already made sure that people can find you via Google Search engine, then you will have to make sure to compete for the first page of search result. This is important point to note because first page of search result captures over 90% of traffic, while the second page result only captures about 6% visitors and the next pages captured even less.
To increase traffic from Google, there are several points that you have to pay attention to.
- Your website needs to have focused contents in it. Website with focused theme will have stronger presence because it will have more relevant keywords. When users try to find a information, they will input a specific keyword in search engine. If your website contains the relevant keyword, your website will appear in the user's first page result.
- Your website needs to have rich content in it. Just having adequate amount of words is not enough to put your website in top spot. You need to add pictures and video in it. Embedding picture will increase your position in Google Search Picture, and adding video especially from Youtube will give you benefit in Google Search Video. Users may not be able to see your website in text search, but you can compete via picture and video search.

- Your website needs to be updated often. Google prefers active website, growing website means that there are fresher contents and Google will re-crawl and re-index your website thus your ranking will also be updated accordingly.
- Add meta tags in your website, including posts and picture. Meta tag will give your website additional information in search engine related to your web characteristic. In Blogger, you can add meta tag for you website by adding description which usually will appear at the bottom of your blog title. By default, meta tag description is disabled. You can also add title text and alt text for your picture and add search description in your post.
